We couldn’t be more excited to tell you the wonderful story of Lewis and Becki and their beautiful day at our Essex wedding venue. This very happy couple wed right here at That Amazing Place not so long ago and with their permission, we’re telling the story of their big day. Becki and Lewis met five years ago after having been introduced at a friend’s birthday party. It was when they met that night they discovered a myriad of connections, from mutual friends to where they’d both grown up. How they’d gone so many years without actually bumping into each other was a conundrum but one they decided to see as fate. They’d finally crossed paths and fallen in love. Here’s their story of love and finally saying, “I do”.

The Venue

Both Becki and Lewis visited That Amazing Place during one of the Wedding Fairs we hold throughout the year. In their own words they, “instantly fell in love with the venue. From the moment we walked in, we knew it was the one. It had such a lovely feel to it and everybody was just so welcoming. Angie was extremely helpful from the moment we met her.” It wasn’t just our beautiful venue that captured their attention, nor just the venue that made their wonderful day as spectacular as it was. Becki explained, “Paul and Jane made us feel like family and nothing was too much trouble. They were more than happy to help whenever we needed them. We loved how relaxed and comfortable it all felt. That Amazing Place felt like a second home. The day itself ran so smoothly, thanks to Angie. She made us feel totally at ease and ensured everything came together just as we’d planned. We were really keen on having a relaxed wedding without the structure and formalities you usually see and thanks to That Amazing Place, it was achieved perfectly.”

Theme and Entertainment

When it came to the theme of their wedding, they wanted something to reflect their “quirky” natures and so avoided anything too traditional. They opted for a 1920’s vintage theme, which saw, “all the boys dressed in tweed suits with feather button holes. The bridal party wore maroon coloured dresses with feather and flower bouquets. We were keen to hold our wedding party in a manor house as opposed to a barn or marquee, as we felt it went well with the theme.” They even borrowed our candelabra’s for the table centerpieces, which were then draped in pearls to really create the 1920’s feel.

When it came to their entertainment, they took the advice of ourselves here at That Amazing Place and went with the incredibly talented Piano DJ. As a surprise for their guests, they hired a saxophone player. They also enjoyed an hour of old school anthems, which saw their entire wedding party hit the dance floor until the very end. Becki said, “we both spent the whole night on the dance floor and loved every second of it.”

Flowers

Their flowers were supplied and arranged by a florist in Norpar Barns, Esta Bocking, The Workroom Florist. Going along with their quirky theme, they chose flowers combined with feathers. The happy couple were incredibly pleased with their floral arrangements and were even pleasantly surprised when Paul, the owner of That Amazing Place (not a lover of flowers himself) actually confessed to loving the arrangement on the staircase, only highlighting the amazing job their florist did.

Dress

Becki chose her dress from a shop called Grace and Lace in Chelmsford. An American designer called Lusan Mandongus designed her dress. It was made of ivory lace and boasted an embellished belt with open back detail. The jeweled belt and headband were additional creations by the boutique and brought Becki’s vision to life.

Catering

The happy couple actually found their caterers at our wedding fair, choosing the famous Magpie Catering. Just as they did with our venue, they knew instantly Magpie was the one. Lewis explained, “They were so accommodating when it came to dietary requirements and adapted dishes to cater to everyone’s needs. The food was outstanding and so many guests commented on how much they enjoyed their meals. Lizzie and her team were all so lovely, we would recommend them to anyone and everyone!”

Special Moments

Any wedding day is special but they’ll always be those extra special moments and for Becki and Lewis, that began with the walk down the aisle. Becki’s most memorable moment started when she walked out of those back doors here at That Amazing Place, “seeing Lewis and all of our family and friends waiting for me.” The couple had hoped for an outdoor wedding so to have the incredible sunshine that we did this past summer was a huge blessing. Marrying under the gazebo was the icing on the cake. For Lewis, his memorable moment was seeing Becki walking towards him as he stood, waiting under the gazebo. When I heard ‘Ho Hey’ start to play, “I couldn’t help but turn around to get a sneak peak of my wife to be. When I saw her I was in awe of how beautiful she looked. The second most memorable moment was probably splitting my trousers on the dance floor!”

Lucy & Michael’s Day At Our Essex Wedding Venue

Who doesn’t love a real love story? We know we go weak at the knees for a little romance and what could be more romantic than hearing about a special couple’s wedding day? Today we’re looking at the nuptials of Lucy and Michael. Lucy and Michael had been together 10 years when they said “I do”. Lucy was just 19 years old, and Michael 21 when they met. In 2017, Michael proposed and Lucy, in her own words, “wasted no time in booking the wedding after waiting so long!” So here’s a little look into their special day, right here at That Amazing Place.

The Venue

Lucy and Michael came to view That Amazing Place and fell in love with its beauty and laid back feel, “You feel welcome and at home the minute you arrive and the whole place is decorated to perfection. It’s a place you just don’t want to leave. I never wanted a venue that made it seem that we were pretending to be anything like a castle etc. I just wanted somewhere where all our friends and family could relax and have an amazing time” and that’s exactly what she got with our Essex wedding venue. Lucy also felt at ease dropping Angie, our wedding coordinator an email whenever she needed to, “she was always so helpful in her responses. Whenever we were at the venue before the wedding or on the day, Paul was so fantastic too. He made us feel so welcome and special. That meant so much to us.”

Theme and Entertainment

As opposed to a theme, the happy couple instead opted for a colour scheme. They enjoyed gold throughout, with accents of pink. Lucy explained, “The guys at That Amazing Place were fantastic on every level with helping me bring my ideas to life. They helped me find retailers who would stock the items I wanted, some items I’d searched a lifetime for. Their list of recommended suppliers online also helped me immensely. I booked my photographer, singer, stationary and chair covers through this list.”

Lucy and Michael were very lucky to have the aunt of their maid of honour create the flowers for their wedding. They opted for whites and pale pinks in the bride’s bouquet and just white for the bridesmaids. Eucalyptus was placed throughout all flowers on the day as Lucy is a huge fan.

For entertainment, the couple had Matty Evans perform magic at the drinks reception who just so happened to go down a storm with the couple’s guests. They also booked Joe Boshell to sing, “who we found through That Amazing Place’s list of recommended suppliers. He was amazing and all my guests loved him. Having him sing our first dance song was so special. His second performance made the whole night, everyone was dancing and singing along.”

Catering

For catering, once again, they dove into That Amazing Place’s list of recommended suppliers and chose the wonderful Magpie Catering. Michael explained, “they were so accommodating to individual guests needs and helped us so much in picking the menu. On the day everyone felt so looked after and the food was so good!”

The Dress

The dress Lucy wore was a Ronald Joyce number from Confetti and Lace. She fell in love with the dress immediately, “When I put on that dress, there was no hesitation. I knew it was the right one. It was everything I’d wanted, straps, low back, fitted in all the right places. Just beautiful.”

Magical Moments

What would a wedding be without those truly magical moments? For Lucy and Michael there were two moments in particular that really stuck out. “When Joe Boshell was singing ‘Hey Jude’ and I looked around to see all of our guests singing together. I just took a second and I was in this perfect place with everyone I loved…” and perhaps for Lucy in particular, a special moment with her father, “My dad was so emotional on the day bless him. He was sobbing on the walk to the aisle and I couldn’t help but laugh.”

Here’s to the wonderful couple. From all of us here at That Amazing Place, we wish you many years of happiness and we hope to see you in the future for anniversary celebrations and more.

Our Amazing Wedding Venue

Whether it’s a case of keeping up with the Jones’s or just simply that in this day-and-age, weddings are about splashing the cash; weddings on a smaller budget seem to have gained a reputation for being substandard. Here at That Amazing Place however, we’re here to tell you that couldn’t be further from the truth, especially with our top tips to help you give your country house wedding a million dollar feel.

Less is more – as they say, the enemy of elegance is clutter so when it comes to your wedding décor, we always suggest you stick to the mantra of “less is more”. Keep things streamlined and the overall look nice and simple as opposed to trying to create a huge amount of self-made details. Keep things white, ivory and all shades of grey and you’ll ensure elegance and simplicity all the way.

Be strategic with your floral arrangements – flowers are essential for any wedding but they’re also an area in which bills can quickly start to add up. Thankfully, there are ways to help keep the bills low and that’s by adopting a strategic attitude about where you’ll be placing the flowers and which flowers in particular to select. Scrimping on flowers on each table will ultimately disappoint you but you can cut down on flowers in other areas of the venue. Invest in one large statement piece that everyone will see when they walk into the venue and you’ll feel a lot happier while your wallet remains full.

Keep a lid on your guest list – instead of throwing a lavish wedding for hundreds and hundreds of people on a small budget, why not crop the guest list and let your budget spread further with fewer guests? You’ve no doubt heard of the term, spreading it thin? That’s exactly what you’ll be doing with too many guests, so cut the list of your country house wedding and enjoy more to spend on fewer people. Make it an intimate and unforgettable experience.

Indulge your creative side – though we strongly advise opting for a solely DIY feel; indulging your creative side a little could be a winning decision. Think invitations and even seating cards. You can find creative ways to take on these beautiful projects and give your wedding a very personal feel. If you don’t have a creative bone in you (and believe us, there are some out there who feel this way) then it may be the perfect time to call on your most creative friend.

Make a grand entrance – it’s important that you know your guests probably won’t remember an inexpensive linen, nor will they remember a lack of flowers here and there but they will remember their entrance into your wedding. Make their entrance something to remember with striking flowers, candles and other elaborate décor. Keeping this at the entrance will be the best place for them to really see and remember it. Always remember the entrance and exit of each event space.

Here at That Amazing Place, we have the perfect option for those looking to keep within their budget in the form of our Twilight Wedding Package. For more information, simply contact us today.

Transform Your Wedding Reception Space

Matt Heath Photograhy

Just because your wedding reception is taking place at our country house wedding venue, doesn’t mean you can’t make it your own. Every couple that steps through the door has, in the past, transformed our space. For a glimpse at what’s been done before, simply head on over to our “wedding stories” online. If you’re anything like any other happy couple however, you’ll want to look forward and create something totally different but unless you’re an interior designer, it can be a little hard to picture the transformation of your dreams. Thankfully, we’re here to help with our expert tips and tricks on transforming your wedding reception space at our country house wedding venue.

Hang extra lighting – lighting may seem an obvious choice but much like other décor, there are so many varieties. Simply hanging a little extra lighting than is already there can make a huge difference but it’s down to you just what sort of lighting you have. Will you opt for fairy lights or perhaps a statement light fitting? The choice is yours but ultimately; the right lighting can completely transform your space all by itself.

Matt Heath Photograhy

Bring the outdoors in – this year is all about bringing the outdoors in. While this may sound like hard work, it’s actually super easy as long as you have the right florist on your side. Think small trees, vines and any other greenery that compliments your theme. This will not only accentuate our country house wedding venue’s feel but will give your big day a more natural feel.

Drape the room – regardless of whether the room in question has wallpaper or paint, with the help of drapes you can quite literally create a room within a room. Create a new, dramatic look with the help of luxury fabric that not only matches your wedding colours but creates the sharp, classic look you’re going for. If you’re looking to create a new look on a budget, draping just the ceiling can have just as dramatic an effect as the entire room.

Accent with a little sparkle – there’s nothing quite like a little sparkle to make an occasion feel extra special and your wedding day is no exception, in fact, we don’t know a single bride that doesn’t want to sparkle on their big day. From crystal curtains to dangling centre pieces. Even a metallic sheen for those who don’t want too obvious a sparkle; there are so many options and so many ways to transform a room.

Introduce a lot of candles – candles are the epitome of romance and while many use them, how you display them and what candle you opt for can completely change the atmosphere. From groups of candles of varying heights, to hanging lanterns with tea lights; there are so many options to choose from.

If you’d like more help creating your own transformation here at our exclusive use country house wedding venue, you’ll be pleased to know that our events manager will be happy to help, every step of the way. For more information on our wedding packages, contact us today

Picking The Perfect Engagement Ring

engagement rings

Back in the day, picking an engagement ring meant little more than finding a beautiful solitaire diamond and choosing whether to go with yellow or white gold. Today however, choosing an engagement ring can seem as baffling as picking the perfect mortgage over a thirty-five year term. What may seen like the right choice, could be the complete opposite of what your true love has always dreamt of. So, when you’re faced with a decision like this, just how do you ensure you make the right choice? Well, thankfully for you, this Essex wedding venue has seen it all. We’ve seen every single variety of engagement you could even dream of from huge coloured diamonds to cluster rings and even now the very popular halo diamond. So, who else better to offer you advice than the one’s that see a range of rings along with a range of brides passing through their wedding venue every day? Here’s the ultimate guide to perfecting the perfect engagement ring from That Amazing Place, a wedding venue in the heart of Essex;

Choose a budget – just as you would with a wedding venue or a wedding package, it’s important to choose your budget when it comes to an engagement ring. Remember, there’s no hard and fast rule about what you should be spending here. Try not to get caught up in what others tell you about a quarter of your wage etc. Simply spend whatever feels comfortable to you. Don’t forget, if you’re intent on spending more than you have in the bank account, there are always payment options but try not to jump in too deep.

engagement rings

Choose the gemstone – while most will opt for a diamond, don’t forget there are a variety of gemstones out there from sapphires to rubies. It could be that your wife to be would love an emerald surrounded by a halo of diamonds. Try your best to get an idea of this beforehand. While it may sound difficult, it’s rather easy, especially if they have a pinterest board; just look for the ‘engagement ring’ pin board.

Choose a gemstone shape – from princess cut to clusters, there are a multitude of options and once again, it’s down to you to speak with your betrothed and find out what their heart really wants. They may surprise you with something you’d never have picked out for them. While doing a little digging around may be stressful, we guarantee you’ll thank us in the end.

Choose a precious metal – from white gold to rose gold, yellow gold to platinum; the metal you choose will finish off your ring and mean the difference between ‘I do’ and ‘I don’t’ on your big day. The best way to get around this one? Look at the jewellery she’s wearing. Don’t buy her yellow gold if she lives in white gold, after-all, you wouldn’t marry in a city ceremony if she spent her time looking at country house wedding venues like ours would you?

engagement rings

Choose a ring size – last but most certainly not least, choose the right size. The worse thing you can do is choose a ring that’s too small and not be able to place it on her ring finger when she’s said yes! Take a peek at her current jewellery but if you’re unable to do that, it’s time to get imaginative. Is she a deep sleeper? Then place a piece of string around her finger while she’s sleeping…ok ok, so it’s not the best of ideas but it’s something!

If you have any hints, tips or tricks for picking the perfect engagement ring, then let us know in the comments below. Until then, from all of us here at our country house wedding venue, we wish you good luck and can’t wait to see you when you’re part of a newly engaged couple.
