Benefits of a Winter Wedding

Benefits of a Winter Wedding

Benefits of a winter wedding

When planning a wedding, you will have to make an immense number of decisions such as securing the right venue, choosing your food, creating beautiful décor etc. It is a lot to do and can become overwhelming at times, but by securing the right suppliers by using a venues preferred supplier list, or with the help of sites like Wedding Assistant, you can have your dream wedding. Among your many decisions, you will have to work out that all important date. Spring and summer weddings tend to dominate the market with autumn holding a close second, but what about winter? A winter wedding has many benefits you may have not thought about. Here are just a few to keep in mind.

Fairytale Style Backdrops

A wedding outdoors in the middle of spring or summer is great for photos, but during the winter, you have an even better opportunity to have truly dream inspired photos. Winter wonderland weddings provide romantic photo opportunities that simply cannot be imagined in other seasons. Snowflakes falling, frost on the ground and a roaring open fire, the possibilities for where to have your important photos taken are truly endless. If you want to invest in a fairytale style setting, a winter wedding is the way to go.

Less Competition for Venues

Wedding venues are important and are often the first thing people book. They set the scene for the entire wedding and choosing just the right one is a big decision. Competition for specific dates throughout the warmer months is high and you have to get in very early if you want to book a prime summer date. However, during the winter, wedding venues much quieter and prices are also lower, offering more availability and great value for money.

No Heat and Humidity

The heat and humidity from the warmer weather during the summer months is not for everyone. Humidity makes temperatures feel hotter than normal and calls for a lot more hair product to keep you looking picture perfect. Humidity may seem like a small entity, but it can cause your guests to be uncomfortable. The benefit of a winter wedding is no humidity. You can have your hair perfect and your guests comfortable without spending extra to see it happen.

High temperatures can also mean that some dresses suits can be difficult to wear during the hotter months. This is especially true if your wedding is held outdoors.  A winter wedding alleviates this issue entirely. More clothing can be worn during the winter without fear of sweating! Those in suits can easily wear what they want and those wearing dresses have the option of wearing sleeves, providing far more design choices. Imagine posing for your photos with a stunning wintery backdrop wearing a beautiful lace sleeves on a full length ball gown. That is what dreams are made of and it is only going to be comfortable during the winter.

Spend Less on Decorations

Naturally venues change their décor with the changing of the seasons. Choosing a venue during winter that is already decorated for the festive period will save you money while allowing you to still have a beautiful setting. You can still add a few things to make the space your own, but there will be less to do, which makes planning a little easier. Great for outdoor pictures!

Easier to Plan Around Family and Friends’ Schedules

Planning a summer wedding is great, but choosing a date can be very difficult. Often you must plan your big day around close friends and family. For example, avoiding holidays that have been prearranged or events happening throughout the summer can make it difficult to find the exact date that works for everyone. It is possible that some people you want at your wedding may not be able to attend because of prior engagements.  In contrast, planning a wedding during winter can solve most of that issue. Not much is going on during the winter months, making it easier to pick your date without having to confirm it with every person you want to attend your special day.

A winter wedding has so many more benefits than a summer one can offer and remember, after the wedding, you will have your pick of honeymoon spots. It is always cheaper to travel during the winter season.

Emma & Billy Tie The Knot

Emma & Billy Tie The Knot

Emma & Billy Tie the Knot during Covid-19 at That Amazing Place

Nothing could keep Emma and Billy apart – not even the stress of re-arranging a wedding in two days! So in September 2020, after 7 years of being together, the happy couple tied the knot at That Amazing Place whilst surrounded by close family and friends.

The Venue

That Amazing Place was the perfect venue for Emma and Billy’s beautiful wedding ceremony. They loved that we could give them a private and exclusive space for them to use for the entire day of the wedding. When visiting That Amazing Place on one of our open days, the couple was also impressed by the friendliness of our staff.

“I have always thought that all wedding venues are beautiful in their own way. But what makes That Amazing Place stand out from the crowd is the team that works there, and the owners! They’re friendly, approachable, and really genuine people who want you to have the wedding of your dreams.” says Emma.

Theme and Entertainment

The happy couple chose not to have a specific theme for their wedding. They simply wanted a lovely celebration where they and all of their guests could feel comfortable and relaxed. To add decorations to their laid-back wedding, Emma and Billy chose to use Love Lily, who provided a stunning flower wall.

As for entertainment the couple hired singer and acoustic guitarist Tom Ryder to play throughout the three course meal.

Flowers

Stunning pale pink hydrangeas and roses by Daisie Chain adorned all of the tables, and Emma’s bouquet was styled to match. All of her bridesmaids also had bouquets of hydrangeas and roses in white, which all matched the intimate and laid-back theme of the wedding perfectly.

Catering

Premier Crew Hospitality rose to the challenge of providing the canapes and the three course evening meal, even though the wedding was re-scheduled with 48 hours notice! The couple were very impressed with what they were able to create.

Emma also says, “We were complimented by all the guests about how lovely the food was. The caterers were also great at accommodating the children’s needs and all of our guests’ dietary requirements.”

Emma and Billy also decided not to have a wedding cake, and instead provided their own delicious doughnuts! This fun break from tradition fit perfectly with the relaxed atmosphere of their wedding.

Dress

Emma’s beautiful wedding dress was found at Clifford Burr Bridal in Bishop Stortford. As you can see in the stunning photos taken by Robert Baggs, the dress was fitted at the top, flowing down to a princess-style at the bottom. Every gorgeous inch of the dress was also captured by videographers Spotlight Weddings.

Special moments

Even though Billy and Emma’s wedding was planned in just two days, it ended up being the intimate, laid-back wedding that they had always dreamed of. Due to Covid-19 restrictions only 30 guests were able to attend, but the married couple don’t feel like they missed out on the big wedding they had originally planned.

Emma says, “We’re both happy it happened this way now, and we will remember the day for a long time to come.”

As for special moments, Billy took a photo of the outside ceremony decorations being blown around by the wind…just moments before the ceremony itself! He had wanted to send it to Emma, but Angie (one of the managers of That Amazing Place) wisely advised him against it. Once she saw the photo after the ceremony, Emma agreed that it was the right call!

She says, “The staff at That Amazing Place really went out of their way to make the day completely stress free. They really did everything, and the day wouldn’t have been as wonderful as it was without them.”

We are so pleased that Emma and Billy chose That Amazing Place for their wedding, and that despite all of the difficulties caused by Covid-19, they had a beautiful day. We truly wish them a lifetime of happiness together, and that they think back on their wedding day fondly for years to come.

Melissa & Tom Tie The Knot

Melissa & Tom Tie The Knot

Melissa and Tom Tie the Knot at That Amazing Place

Everyone here at That Amazing Place is dedicated to making our weddings as perfect as possible, even during Covid-19. That’s why we came together to ensure that Melissa and Tom could have the day of their dreams, even if it had to look a bit different than expected.

Melissa and Tom first met when playing enemies Maureen and Benny in the musical, Rent. Melissa joked,

“I had to moon on stage and I’m pretty sure that was the moment Tom fell! Neither of us were really looking for a relationship at the time, but the connection was just instant and undeniable!”

Needless to say, the rest was history.

The Venue

That Amazing Place was the first venue that Melissa and Tom viewed.

“It just had everything we were looking for,” said Melissa. “It was a really nice balance of modern and traditional and the whole venue and grounds were beautiful. But the most important part for us was the people. From the first visit we were welcomed like family, nothing was ever too much and we really were made to feel special.”

Theme and Entertainment

Melissa and Tom didn’t have a particular theme for their wedding, but just wanted it to reflect them as a couple. This included some of their favourite things, such as theatre, music, prosecco, cupcakes and cherry blossoms! Melissa crafted most of the decor herself, and Angie gave suggestions about how the wedding would work. This was particularly helpful as the couple tied the knot in September of 2020 during Covid-19.

Flowers

One of the most unique and touching aspects of Melissa and Tom’s wedding were their flowers. Melissa crafted all of the flowers and bouquets out of paper, including sheet music that her Nan left to her when she passed away. As the couple met during a musical and both have musical hobbies, they thought that this would be a beautiful way of having their grandparents there on their wedding day. Bomknights Documentary Wedding Photography beautifully captured these roses, dahlias, peonies and other flowers made out of the sheet music as well as purple and rose gold paper. This included buttonholes and corsages for the wedding party, two round bouquets for the Maids of Honour, and a bigger, teardrop-shaped bouquet for the bride herself.

“I got lots of comments both before and on the day,” Melissa said. “I have actually included making bespoke paper flower bouquets in my new business venture as a result!”

Catering

The catering was a very important decision, and Premier Crew Catering absolutely came through for our two foodies. Everyone dined on a tomato and mozzarella salad, followed by a stunning BBQ buffer and a lemon and berry eton mess.

“All of our guests commented on how different it was to have BBQ and how good it was,” said Melissa. “The canapes and evening fish and chip cones also went down a storm!”

Dress

Melissa’s dress was by Essence of Australia, which she bought from the Bridal Shop Romford. But it wasn’t an easy choice for our bride!

“I’d originally lusted after a dress for months before trying it on and feeling like a girl playing dress up, and not at all bridal,” Melissa explained.
“I didn’t think I would go for anything as fitted as it was, but I put it on and instantly fell in love.” Much like the rest of the wedding, Melissa also added her own unique touch to her dress. “Although it already had some sparkle from the beading, I customised it having a layer of glitter tulle added and a matching glitter veil – something I was adamant wouldn’t be ‘for me’ until I tried one on and ended up with the biggest I could find! I looked completely different to how I originally thought, and I couldn’t have been happier!”

Special moments

“For both of us it was walking down the aisle and realising that, despite the odds, we had made it and nothing could stop us from getting married now. The months leading up to the wedding had been very up and down, will we or won’t we, and in the end because of last minute changes we ended up pulling the wedding forward with only a few days notice. It meant that we could still have 30 people instead of 15, but it also added even more stress than there already was.
I think the morning of the wedding we were both still running on adrenaline, but the moment the music started and it was actually happening everything lifted. I don’t think I’ve ever clung to anyone as tight as I did Tom through the ceremony, we were just so happy that it was finally happening.”

Even though the day changed from Melissa and Tom’s original plans, we’re so glad that they were able to have a wedding that was full of smiles and treasured memories. We’re sure that they will spend many happy years together, and we hope that we see them back at That Amazing Place soon.

Adele & Douglas’ big day

Adele & Douglas’ big day

Adele & Douglas’ big day at That Amazing Place, Wedding Venue, Essex.

That Amazing Place are pleased to be able to share another story of a perfect wedding day.

Today it’s the turn of Adele and Douglas, who have been together for 4 and a half years and met over drinks.

The Venue

For these newlyweds there was never another venue in the running.

Adele says “When we first started dating, we often walked past That Amazing Place on a Sunday, and always thought it looked beautiful. When the venue held its first wedding open day, we passed by and said then it would be a lovely place to get married.”  When they set their wedding date, it was the only venue they considered and hoped that the inside was as stunning as the outside.  They weren’t disappointed, “We knew it was perfect for us and speaking with Hannah and Paul confirmed this. The size of the venue, the decor, the rooms, the grounds – it really is amazing! Plus everyone at the venue are so accommodating.”

Our dog friendly policy was also a big pull for this couple and made the wedding all the more special.  Their cheeky canine friend just couldn’t help himself getting up to mischief, not only eating all of the best man’s canapes, but also breaking free from the bridesmaids to chase a duck!  This resulted in an impromptu swim across the lake and early exit from the wedding.

Theme and entertainment

Whilst Adele and Douglas didn’t have a theme, they really wanted a relaxed and fun wedding.  As Douglas is from Scotland, the rooms on site were perfect for family who travelled for the wedding.

The grounds and countryside surroundings made for some stunning photos from photographer Scott Miller, who captured lots of special moments to provide a beautiful lasting record of the day.

In the evening, our newlyweds choose a band called “The Beavers” to get everyone up out of their seats and partying the night away.

Adele said “Paul and Angie really helped as the band came with a lot of equipment, but nothing was too much trouble and they had lots of ideas on how we could make it work. The evening was so much fun, we didn’t stop dancing all night.”

Catering

Adele and Douglas opted for our twilight package and whilst they didn’t have a traditional wedding breakfast, this buffet option allowed for a sit-down meal in our picturesque hall.

As Douglas and several of his friends are chefs, it was important that the food was of an excellent standard.  We are pleased to report that our recommended supplier, Premier Crew, didn’t let them down.

Adele said “Sarah helped us so much with quantities and suggestions.  We had so many comments on how good the food and service were.”

Flowers

The flowers were provided by Jo at Browns Blooms and Balloons and they were beautiful! Adele asked Jo to supply the flowers after seeing her arrangements at our open day in May.

Our bride and groom gave Jo a very loose brief of small vases, pink flowers and thistles and were really pleased with the results.

Adele said “It was great as she knew the venue inside out, so could immediately tell me how many small vases I would need to alternate with candles, and had ideas of how the flowers could be moved around during the day.”7

Dress

We think you’ll agree our beautiful bride looked stunning in her dress from Ritva Westinius.

As Adele is very petite, she sometimes struggles to find clothes that are a perfect fit, so to have something bespoke felt really special.

She said “It was so comfortable and practical, as well as being stunning! I especially loved how it transformed from daytime to evening, with the removable lace jacket and ingenious way the train hooked up to make it in to a strapless evening dress.”

Special Moments

Adele and Douglas both had an amazing, perfect day and agree there is nothing they would change about it.

They both found dancing on stage with the band using blow up guitars as a particularly memorable moment.  However, for Adele, one of the loveliest and most romantic moments was when her new husband declared it to be the best night of his life!

Adele said “Neither of us could stop smiling, we both just had so much fun, with all our closest friends and family in such a beautiful location.  Angie and her team worked so hard to make the day perfect, everything worked seamlessly behind the scenes and the day ran like clockwork. Paul was the perfect host, so much fun and made sure that everyone was having a really good time. We are so thankful that Paul and Jayne open up their beautiful home to weddings, it is all so personal and nothing is too much trouble.”

We are so pleased to have helped this lovely couple realise their dream of a fun, relaxed wedding day.  At That Amazing Place we love to see people enjoying their celebrations so much and feel proud to have been able to make it happen.  We wish Adele and Doug lots more fun, luck and love in a long and happy marriage.

Wedding Stories at That Amazing Place.

At That Amazing Place, we believe it’s important to get to know our couples.

Our aim is ensuring we tailor-make their wedding to make it a dream day  to remember. Now it’s time to hear all about Lucy and Vicky’s dream day

This lovely couple have now been together for 6 years.  They met through friends whilst enjoying a night out in a bar.  Lucy was actually dating someone else, but knew it wasn’t working for her.  From the moment she saw Vicky she knew she’d met “the one”.  It really was a case of love at first sight!

The Venue

Lucy and Vicky looked at other wedding venues, but they knew they had found their perfect setting for their summer wedding when they came to visit our house in the picturesque Essex countryside.  For them there was just no competition, Lucy said “No other venue could compare with That amazing place, it’s simply beautiful.”

Theme and entertainment

Our lovely couple had no strong theme for the wedding, except “summer”.

That Amazing Place set in picturesque grounds with flowers in bloom and a lake, proved to be perfect for a wedding with summer as its central theme.

To provide some background music and create a welcoming, but sophisticated environment for their guests, our happy couple hired a saxophonist for background music during the drinks reception.

For the evening reception our recommended DJ, Andy from Herts Entertainment who never fails to get the party started.

Flowers

The happy couple decided on simple floral arrangements and bouquets consisting of mainly lilies and white roses from “Vicky’s Floral”.  A simple choice that looked stunning on the day.

Dress

Our gorgeous brides both looked beautiful in their wedding dresses.  Vicky chose a traditional white dress with a stunning lace bodice from “Wed2be”.   Lucy selected a lace dress in a pretty blush colour that really complimented her skin tone, from “Enchanted Bridal Boutique”.  We think you’ll agree they both looked gorgeous!

Catering

The catering option was an easy decision for Lucy and Vicky, as our recommendation for caterers, Premier Crew, offer a vast choice for the wedding breakfast so you can devise a menu to suit everyone’s taste.

They also hired an ice cream truck to fit in with their theme of “summer”.  This catering option provided different varieties of ice cream – an additional dessert option with a difference!

Special Moments

Lucy and Vicky found it difficult to pinpoint just one moment from a perfect day of exquisite memories.  However, they agreed that the moment they first saw each other, on the patio wearing their dresses was very special and will remain forever engraved in their memories.

The other standout moment for this couple was the first dance.  Lucy said “I was so scared about the first dance as I have two left feet and Vicky is a really good dancer, but it was perfect and I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

At That Amazing Place we are always delighted when we are able to work with our couples to help create perfect wedding days full of amazing memories that last a lifetime.  We wish newlyweds Lucy and Vicky a long and happy life together and feel privileged to have been able to host their perfect summer wedding at our countryside venue.

Rosa And Alex Wedding Stories at That Amazing Place

Rosa And Alex Wedding Stories at That Amazing Place

Rosa And Alex Wedding, That Amazing Place, Harlow, Essex

Here at our stunning country venue, That Amazing Place, we enjoy sharing the stories of the beautiful weddings and once in a lifetime experiences we help to create.  In this blog, we feature the story of Rosa and Alex, who celebrated their wedding with us in June 2019.

Our happy couple have known each other since their school days and had previously dated when younger.  Eventually, true love found a way to reconnect them together as a couple and they have now been together for 3 years.

The Venue

Rosa and Alex looked at a few other wedding venues, but we’re happy to say That Amazing Place was the one that really stood out for them as “everyone was so friendly”.  However, the thing that really sealed the deal for this lovely couple, was our policy of allowing dogs to attend the wedding.

At our stunning venue, we truly recognise that dogs are an important part of many families.  We think weddings should be tailor-made to the individual couples tastes and always strive to prioritise the things that make their day and our service special.  Rosa said “Thank you so much, our day was just perfect! Angie was amazing and everything ran so smoothly!”

Theme and entertainment

Whilst Rosa and Alex didn’t have a particular theme, they chose to dress our neutral venue in their colour scheme of blush and rose gold.

To provide some background music and create a welcoming, but sophisticated environment for their guests, our happy couple hired a saxophonist for background music during the drinks reception.  For the evening reception they used our recommended DJ, Andy from Herts Entertainment who never fails to get the party started.

Flowers

Whilst Rosa didn’t have any specific requests for flowers, she knew she didn’t want anything too perfect or too disordered.  Caroline at the Orchid Room in Wickford was able to offer her expert advice and supplied all the flower and table arrangements.

Tall vases with large arrangements looked simply stunning in the wedding breakfast room.

Rosa said “the flowers and arrangements turned out to be beautiful”.

Dress

This beautiful bride is very petite, so found choosing a dress for her frame a little challenging.  In the end, Rosa selected a fitted dress with spaghetti straps, a gorgeous large lace train and a beautiful, detailed back.   We think you will agree, that Rosa made the right choice and looked simply stunning.

Catering

Our newlyweds opted to go with Premier Crew for the catering and a formal three course meal.

Premier Crew were also able to offer guests an option for each course and this worked really well as they catered to all tastes.

All the guests agreed that the food was delicious.  For the food in the evening, the bride and groom opted for a pizza oven, which is housed in a converted horse box, providing a talking point and delicious catering all at the same time!  The fresh made to order pizzas “went down a treat’”.

Special Moments

All our weddings are always full of special moments and this one was no different.  Rosa said if she had to pick one, it was when they first laid eyes on each other at the start of the ceremony, in the picturesque setting by the lake.  Our lovely bride said “We both found it hard not to shed a tear when we saw each other”.
